  • If your vehicle was impounded, you will need to come to the Tallmadge Police Department in person to sign a release for you vehicle. The signed release is required in order to retrieve your vehicle from the tow company holding the vehicle and cannot be released without it. Vehicles are released to the registered vehicle owner only.
    As the vehicle owner, if your vehicle was towed due to driving under suspension (DUS), operating the vehicle while intoxicated (OVI), or Wrongful Entrustment, in certain cases your car cannot be released until at least your initial appearance in court answering to those charges.
    The court may issue you a vehicle release document at that time that you must present in person at the police department, or, the court may order that your car be immobilized for up to 180 days, or forfeited, depending upon prior DUS or OVI offenses.

  • The Tallmadge Police Department has no role in the amount charged for any impound or storage fees since the towing company is a private company.

    Release hours are: Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

  • Ohio law requires all drivers to stop immediately after an accident and exchange information with the other party(s). The information that you should exchange with the other party(s) includes: - Name and address - Driver’s license number - Vehicle make, model, color and license plate number - Insurance company and agent - Note the date, time, location, witnesses and any injuries
    If you wish an accident report, call the police. If the vehicles are drivable, move the cars off the roadway to prevent the occurrence of another accident.
    Leaving the scene of an accident prior to either exchanging information or calling the police is considered a hit-skip.

  • You may sign the waiver and mail it with your payment to the Tallmadge Police Department or pay in person at the station. Payment may be made by check or cash (exact amount only). If paying by check, please make payable to City of Tallmadge and reference the parking citation number in the memo area of the check.
    The fees are calculated based on the length of time that passed between receiving the citation, and the time when it is paid: - Within 72 hours: $5 - After 72 hours but within 30 days: $10 - After 30 days: $100
    If the citation falls within Code 351.23 (Handicapped Parking Only) - Within 72 hours: $50 - After 72 hours but within 30 days: $75 - After 30 days: $100 - The fine for a third violation of Tallmadge City Code 351.23, or any other violation within a calendar year and every violation thereafter: $100
    If payment is not received within 45 days following the violation, a citation to the Stow Municipal Court will be issued.

  • You may renew 90 days prior to the expiration date. After your expiration date, there is no “grace” period, and you can be cited for having an expired driver license.

  • On Ohio registered vehicles, window tint must allow 50% light transmittance on the rear and side windows, and 70% transmittance on the windshield. In other words, the tint cannot be darker than 50% on the side and back, and 30% on the windshield.
    Remember that auto glass is slightly tinted from the factory, and will make the tint you apply on your windows darker than advertised by the tint manufacturer.
    Additionally, no reflective material is permitted on any part of the windows and decals are prohibited on the rear window and below the Approved Safety Glass (AS1) line on the front windshield, except a State of Ohio Vehicle Inspection sticker.

  • The police department takes pride in the service we provide to our community. If you have a complaint or question regarding how a call was handled, the first step is to contact the officer’s sergeant.
    If that does not resolve the matter, the sergeant will arrange for you to complete a written complaint form outlining the specifics of your complaint. The lieutenant will follow-up on all formal complaints.

  • Tallmadge Police will respond to any location in the city of Tallmadge to take a report. Contact the Police Dispatch on the non-emergency line at 330-633-2181 and an Officer will be dispatched when available.
    If you have an emergency situation dial 911 and stay on the line if possible.
    Reports may be taken at the Police Station 24 hours a day, seven days a week. (Note: this does not insure quicker response times as officers are typically dispatched to the station for these reports. The red phone on the lobby wall rings directly to dispatch.)

  • If you suspect someone is participating in illegal drug related activities, please contact the Detective Bureau at 330-633-4231.
    You may remain anonymous if you wish, but it is better to leave a contact number, so a detective can ask questions if he/she needs more details.

Police Department - General FAQs

  • Protection Orders issued by the Municipal or Common Pleas Courts in a criminal case are temporary. They expire at the end of the case or sentencing of the defendant.
    Civil Protection Orders issued by the Domestic Relations Court can last up to five years and may be renewed. Civil Protection Orders issued by the Domestic Relations Court can also address issues of custody, division of property and financial support.
    A defendant in a domestic violence or similar case can be arrested for violating either.

  • Yes, the Domestic Violence Unit/Shelter Advocacy Freedom and Empowerment (SAFE) Program, the Victim Assistance Program and the Battered Women’s Shelter all regularly assist victims in understanding this area of law.   • Between the hours of 11 p.m. - 5 a.m., Sunday - Thursday. Between the hours of Midnight - 5 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
    Listed curfew times apply, unless the minor is accompanied by a parent, guardian or other responsible adult over the age of 21 who has been given permission by the parent or guardian.

  • There is no reliable means to predict how many alcoholic beverages an individual can consume before becoming “drunk” or impaired.
    There are many variables to be considered. To name a few: - Amount of alcoholic content in a drink - Amount of drinks consumed - Over what period of time the drinks were consumed - Weight and build of the consumer
    It is always wiser to have a designated driver or to call a cab anytime you have consumed alcohol and intend to operate a vehicle.

  • Contact the Police Department's non-emergency number at 330-633-2181 and give information to the on-duty Dispatcher.
    Dispatch maintains a log of lost/found animals and can provide further information or assistance.

  • The Auxiliary Officers provide vacation watches in the form of an exterior security inspection of your home while you are away. If a problem is observed, contact will be made with the key holder that you designate.

  • In August 2008, the Tallmadge Communications Center was moved to the city of Stow.

  • Make a police report with the department. At that time, you will be provided with a police report number and referred to the annoyance bureau of your phone company.
    With the report number, the phone company will initiate a trap/trace on your land line phone for a set period of time, and the results will be forwarded to the Police Department upon completion. Cellular phone related matters should be referred to your provider.
    To aid prosecution, keep a notepad by your phone to record the days and times the harassing calls occur so the phone company or prosecutor can match the offender's phone number to the tap records.

  • You can access public records that contain warrant information through the Stow Municipal Court by calling 330-564-4200, and the Summit County Clerk of Courts by calling 330-643-7772. Additionally, public records can be viewed online at the Stow Municipal Court website and the Summit County Clerk of Courts website.

  • The Tallmadge City Jail is a temporary holding facility. Prisoners at Tallmadge will generally be bonded out or transported to the Summit County Jail.
