Mosquito Control

Summit County Public Health (SCPH) is responsible for managing mosquito populations throughout Summit County, including here in the City of Tallmadge, and they work hard to reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases like West Nile Virus. When SCPH plans any spraying in our area, they let us know, and we'll do our best to pass that important information along to you.

SCPH has been providing mosquito control services for over 45 years, implementing a comprehensive and environmentally responsible program that includes:

  • Education & Information: SCPH offers valuable information on mosquito ecology, diseases, and how residents can reduce breeding sites around their homes. For more details, residents can contact SCPH directly at (330) 926-5669.

  • Surveillance: SCPH conducts surveillance by setting traps throughout the county to collect mosquito specimens. These specimens are then tested for diseases such as West Nile Virus and St. Louis encephalitis, which helps SCPH identify areas with high mosquito populations or disease activity.

  • Larviciding: From May through September, SCPH treats standing water sites to eliminate mosquito larvae and pupae before they can develop into adult mosquitoes. These treatments utilize naturally occurring bacteria to minimize environmental impact. Residents are encouraged to report standing water to SCPH by calling (330) 926-5669.

  • Adulticiding: When necessary, and based on their surveillance data, SCPH may conduct evening spraying of residential areas using ultra-low volume (ULV) mist to reduce adult disease-carrying and nuisance mosquitoes. SCPH prioritizes the use of environmentally friendly and less toxic products for these applications.
