Building the Future Together

The City of Tallmadge, in collaboration with Round River Consulting and guided by the Strategic Planning Team, developed a comprehensive Strategic Plan that reflects the voices and priorities of the community. 

Community-Driven Development

The City of Tallmadge prioritized public participation throughout the planning process, ensuring a diverse and representative range of perspectives. This engagement included:

  • Twenty-one individual interviews with city officials, council members, and key stakeholders to identify emerging issues.
  • Five focus groups were held in October 2024, each tailored to different community sectors, including longtime residents, newer residents, local businesses, community groups, and economic development professionals.
  • A Town Hall Meeting in November 2024, which facilitated in-depth discussions on key areas of interest, with support from a dedicated working group of table hosts from the SPT.
  • An extensive community survey, available both online and in print, received nearly 1,100 responses, demonstrating a high level of civic engagement.

A Vision and Mission for the Future

At the heart of the Strategic Plan is a shared vision:

This vision is supported by a strong mission to deliver excellence in city services that enhance the quality of life for all residents. Our mission:

“We strive to provide continued excellence in city services that support and enrich a vibrant quality of life for every member of our community.”

The plan is grounded in core values of fostering public trust, responding to community needs, and respecting all individuals.

Strategic Priorities

Through extensive public input, five key strategic priorities have been identified to guide the city's future:

  1. Maintaining Quality Services – Strengthen infrastructure, maintain existing infrastructure (roads, facilities, etc.), and achieve and maintain adequate levels of qualified personnel.
  2. Growing Economic Opportunity – Promote adaptive reuse, expand business opportunity, develop strategic partnerships (workforce development), and enhance the city’s economic development team.
  3. Constructing Connected Neighborhoods – Create a plan to develop a more connected community, and improve access to Tallmadge Circle.
  4. Promoting a Vibrant Community – Continue implementation of city planning initiatives, enhance recreation and enrichment opportunities, and enhance existing housing stock.
  5. Communicating with Clarity – Communicate high priority information and maintain communication channels with the community.

Next Steps

The City of Tallmadge is committed to translating this strategic vision into action. Moving forward, the city will:

  • Allocate resources using Strategic Priorities as a guide.
  • Track metrics using key performance indicators to measure progress.
  • Utilize strategic budgeting software to enhance capital expenditure planning.
