Utilities Department

The City of Tallmadge Utilities Department is dedicated to providing residents with safe, potable water and maintaining the city's sanitary sewer systems. Our responsibilities include:

  • Water System Operations:
    • Supplying potable water through pumping and distribution facilities.
    • Maintaining the water works system.
    • Handling billing, construction, extension, metering, reconstruction, and repair related to water services.
  • Sewer System Maintenance:
    • Repairs, cleaning, and metering of the sanitary sewer system in District I.

Water Supply

Tallmadge's potable water originates from Lake Rockwell, undergoes treatment at Akron's water supply plant, and is then pumped to our equalizing reservoirs via two force mains and our pump station.

Water Quality

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency mandates an annual water quality report. For detailed information and to access past Consumer Confidence/Water Quality Reports, please refer to the Water Quality Report archive.

Sanitary Sewer System

The City of Tallmadge's sanitary sewer lines are divided into two distinct districts:

  • District I:
    • Sewage flows to the Akron treatment plant.
    • Maintained by the City of Tallmadge.
    • Residents in this district are billed by the City of Tallmadge for sewer charges.
  • District II:
    • Sewage flows to the Fishcreek plant.
    • Owned, maintained, and operated by Summit County's Department of Environmental Services (DOES).
    • As of January 1, 2011, Tallmadge residents connected to this system are billed for sewer charges by the City of Tallmadge.

Septic Systems

Summit County Public Health (SCPH) commenced issuing Operation Permits for homeowners with septic systems on May 28, 2015. SCPH specifically mails these permits to homes with septic systems that discharge treated effluent or were installed after 2007.
